Five Reasons Not to Procrastinate Taking the CFA® Exam

Avoid procrastination while studying for the CFA exam

Globally, the pandemic has slowed the world to a crawl or at least slowed it down considerably. It’s likely that it has delayed your CFA Exam plans, too. We get it—plans have been canceled and rescheduled more times than we can count. But in times of adversity, the keys to success are flexibility and perseverance. The world may have slowed down, but your plans to obtain the CFA charterholder don’t have to. Here are four reasons why now is not the time to procrastinate taking the CFA Exam.

1. Get a Bonus

Many financial firms offer bonuses to employees who pass their CFA exams and attain the CFA Charter. Some even offer to sponsor the cost of the exam for willing CFA candidates. During a pandemic that has impacted just about everyone one way or another, we could all use a bonus. If money serves as a motivator for you, then you might want to not procrastinate taking the CFA Exam.

2. Increase Your Salary

CFA Charterholders make an average of 15% to 20% more than their non-charterholder peers. The sooner you earn your charter, the sooner your salary will reflect your accomplishment. Whether you are paying off educational loans, saving up for a house, or could just use a little extra cash, a pay increase can make a significant difference in your standard of living.

3. Become a Leader in Finance

Earning the CFA Charter demonstrates your commitment to the finance profession and often serves as a springboard to move into leadership, management, and executive roles. The sooner you pass the CFA Exam, the sooner you can start working towards becoming a trusted leader in the finance profession. That’s why it’s critical to not procrastinate taking the CFA Exam any longer than you have to.

4. Better Job Security

It is sad but true that many people have been furloughed or laid off from their jobs during the ongoing global pandemic. In most organizations, when job cuts happen, it is often the entry-to-mid level workers who are most impacted, rather than senior or executive-level employees.

By advancing your career into a leadership or executive role, you are putting yourself in a position to enjoy better job security when times of adversity strike again. The CFA Charter is the career advancement credential you need to do just that. That’s a good enough reason not to procrastinate taking and passing the CFA Exam, the most critical requirement to earning the Charter.

5. Sacrifice Today for a More Fulfilling Tomorrow

It all comes down to whether you want to take on the grind today or someday in the future. The outcome may be the same no matter when you start the process, who knows what tomorrow will bring? And the longer you keep putting it off, the less likely it is that you will ever earn the Charter.

Our advice: don’t procrastinate taking the CFA Exam. Instead, invest the time and effort today so that you can enjoy a better and more rewarding tomorrow. Trust us—it will be well worth your while.
